We hold special events that take place throughout the year. These events revolve around what is happening in the natural world, and celebrate our connection with plants and animals. Bee Keeping 101

Classes Begin Wednesday, August, 11 6:00 pm

Keith and Jessica Steller, owners of Steller Apiaries, are teaching a Beekeeping 101 workshop series here on the Dahlem Ecology Farm, 1427 Wickwire Rd., starting August 11th. Classes run every other week (except November—February). until honey is harvested in the spring of 2011. After taking this workshop series, participants can expect to have the skills needed to maintain hives of their own! The cost is $40 for members and $65 for non- members, which includes a beekeeping veil to keep! Pre- registration and payment is required during Dahlem Center hours. Wildlife of the Americas

Experience the fantastic array of wildlife found in North, South, and Central America as we examine live lizards, turtles, spiders, and more with renowned naturalist Randy Baker. Animal behavior, human impact, and other ecological concepts are just a few of the engaging topics touched upon during this highly entertaining and educational program for ages 8 and up.

Massasauga Rattlesnake: Debunked!

Join Wildlife Biologist at the DNRE, Kristin Bissell, in investigating the mysterious truths and debunking the bizarre myths regarding Jackson County's only venomous snake, the Massasauga Rattlesnake. After the informational presentation you will have the opportunity to present your own questions to Bissell and meet a live Massasauga in captivity.

Kangaroo, Kookaburra, and More!

The Creature Conservancy is back with more exotic live animals to share! An armored armadillo, baby kangaroos, a laughing kookaburra, and more will take the stage as you embark on a truly unique live animal encounter at The Dahlem Center. Register early; space is limited. For the animals' and audience's enjoyment, children will be required to remain quiet and in their seats for the 60 minute program.

Confusing Fall Warblers & Early Winter Bird ID

Join us for an enchanted journey on Dahlem's trails, as over 100 illuminated pumpkins light your passage through the forest! Along the way a costumed guide will introduce you to live, larger-than-life bats, spiders, owls, and other characters as they spin their tales of life in the woods. All ages are welcome to enjoy this “not-so-scary” family fun event. A campfire, songs, hot cider, and delicious doughnuts, will greet you at the end of your journey.

Holiday Bazaar

Christmas is creeping ever closer and that means Dahlem's annual Holiday Bazaar will be taking place soon. Shoppers can expect to find a wide array of items including hand-made crafts, baked goods, clothing items, and special Holiday gift shop merchandise. As always, plenty of bird seed and feeders will be available to keep your backyard alive this winter.
