SUMMARY:Annual Spring Work Bee 2021
DESCRIPTION:It is the perfect time of the year to address any maintenance that is necessary for spring and summer.  This year’s Annual Spring Work Bee is on Saturday May 8th\, 2021 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.\nVolunteers please arrive at 8:45 AM to sign in and complete a Health Screening form (for covid-19). Assignments are given out at the start of the day at 9:00 AM. After the work is done we will have a complimentary Thank You picnic lunch! The staff will provide grilled hot dogs\, snacks and refreshments for all volunteers participating this day!\n** Please complete the form below so we know how many volunteers to anticipate and provide lunch for **\n\nWhat will I be doing at the Work Bee?\nAssignments are given out at the start of the day at 9:00 AM. If you have an interest in something particular\, let us know! Our goal is to utilize a volunteer’s individual strengths as much as possible. Here are some areas we plan to tackle: \n\nClear out invasive plants along the trails\nPlace wood chips on the Natural Playscape and other areas of need\nWeeding around the buildings and flower gardens\nWash windows\, bird feeders\, and outdoor signage\nClean and organize the McLaughlin pole barn\n\nWe welcome you to bring your own personal equipment such as rakes\, garden shears\, loppers\, and other tools that would help assist the process.  Remember to; dress for the weather\, bring your work gloves and a bottle of water!  Everyone will be working outdoors\, wear a face mask\, and observe social distancing. \nFeel free to contact the office at 517-782-3453 should you have questions or concerns.  Thank you!

DESCRIPTION:It is the perfect time of the year to address any maintenance that is necessary after summer.  This year’s Annual Fall Work Bee is on Saturday October 3rd\, 2020 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.\nVolunteers please arrive at 8:45 AM to sign in and complete a Health Screening form. Assignments are given out at the start of the day at 9:00 AM. After the work is done we will have a complimentary Tailgate Lunch! The staff will provide grilled hot dogs\, snacks and refreshments for all volunteers participating this day!\n** Please complete the form below so we know how many volunteers to anticipate and provide lunch for **\n\nWhat will I be doing at the Work Bee?\nAssignments are given out at the start of the day at 9:00 AM. If you have an interest in something particular\, let us know! Our goal is to utilize a volunteer’s individual strengths as much as possible. Here are some areas we plan to tackle: \n\nClear out invasive plants in new designated stations along the Nature For All Trail\nPlace wood chips on the Natural Playscape and other areas of need\nWeeding around the buildings and gardens\nWash windows\, bird feeders\, and outdoor signage\nClean and organize the McLaughlin pole barn\nWash maple sugaring equipment (sap buckets and collection barrels)\n\nWe welcome you to bring your own personal equipment such as rakes\, garden shears\, and other tools that would help assist the process.  Remember to; dress for the weather\, bring your work gloves and a bottle of water!  Everyone will be working outdoors\, wear a face mask\, and observe social distancing. \nFeel free to contact the office at 517-782-3453 should you have questions or concerns.  Thank you!

DESCRIPTION:Maple Sugaring School Program\nDate: February 21\, 2020\nTime: 8:45-10:00 am\nSchool: Columbia Lower Elementary School; 1st grade \n  \nMaple Sugaring school program is designed to allow students a first hand experience in the delicious tradition of maple sugaring. Students will learn basic concepts of maple sugaring\, investigate tree characteristics\, winter tree ID\, how sap flows\, taste sap from a maple tree\, and see the maple syrup-making process itself at our historic sugar shack. Several outdoor stations and a couple indoor stations allows students a chance to warm up on cold days. Dress for the weather! \nSupports new STEM Standards: K.LS1.C  K.ESS3.A  K.ETS1.A  2.LS2.1  2.LS2.2  5.LS1.C  5.LS2.A.  Program aligns to Michigan Common Core Standards\, Next Generation Science Standards\, and STEM
