Outdoor Adventure Summer Day Camp 2018

Our summer camp geared toward children ages 3 to 12 years is based outdoors, so most of the day is spent in the forest and fields on Dahlem’s property. There are plenty of opportunities to choose more than one week to fill your camper’s need for outdoor fun and adventure this summer!

Fee Per Session

Half Day Camp – $100 Member; $120 Non-member
Full Day Camp – $140 Member; $165 Non-member

Multiple Camper Discount

When signing up multiple campers attending the same session, the first camper is at the regular fee, and each additional camper is $10 off.

Camp Employment

Dahlem is hiring Counselors and Assistant Counselors for our Summer Outdoor Adventure Day Camp. Please contact us for more job information or click here to download the form and follow the instructions to apply. Camp staff must have valid First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. Staff must also provide proper ID for Dahlem to conduct a background check.

2018 Camp Sessions

Session 1 – Outdoor Explorers

3 & 4 year olds
June 4-8, 8:30 am – 11:30 am
This morning session camp provides our youngest campers the opportunity to develop an appreciation of several elements of the natural world by introducing the forest, wetland, grassland, stream and pond environments. Must be 3 years by May 1, 2018, and have independent bathroom skills.

Session 2 – Outdoor Explorers

3 & 4 year olds
June 4-8, 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm
This afternoon session camp provides our youngest campers the opportunity to develop an appreciation of several elements of the natural world by introducing the forest, wetland, grassland, stream and pond environments. Must be 3 years by May 1, 2018, and have independent bathroom skills.

Session 3 – Forest Explorers

3 & 4 year olds
June 11-15, 8:30 am – 11:30 am
This morning session camp takes our youngest campers on an in-depth discovery tour of the forest; including forest plants and animals. We will study insects, birds, mammals, fish, and trees in the forest. Must be 3 years by May 1, 2018, and have independent bathroom skills.

Session 4 – Things with Wings and Paws that Crawl

3 to 6 year olds
June 25-29, 8:30 am – 11:30 am
This morning session camp takes our youngest campers on a naturalist adventure to learn about things with wings and paws that crawl. Campers will participate in daily hikes, games, exploration and learn observation skills. Must be 3 years by May 1, 2018, and have independent bathroom skills.

Session 5 – Outdoor Skills

5 to 12 year olds
July 9-13, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Campers learn a variety of outdoor skills, from debris shelter building and camouflage to fire building, knot tying, orienteering and mapping. Lessons are developed as appropriate for age levels. Campers will participate in daily hikes, games, crafts, camp songs, and most of all, create life-long memories. Camp wraps up with a pizza party on Friday.

Session 6 – Things with Wings and Paws that Crawl

5 to 12 year olds
July 16-20, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Become a junior naturalist by learning about things with wings and paws that crawl. Campers will participate in daily hikes, predator-prey games, explore, learn to use binoculars, aquatic studies equipment, and practice observation skills. Camp wraps up with a pizza party on Friday.

Session 7 – Get Out & Get Dirty

5 to 12 year olds
July 23-27, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
The best thing about people is that we are washable! So no amount of dirt is going to keep us from spending the days outside and exploring. We’ll build forts, turn over rocks, catch frogs and other aquatic critters, chase bugs, climb trees, play predator-prey games, take daily hikes, and so much more! Camp wraps up with a pizza party on Friday.

Session 8 – Where the Wild Things Live

7 to 12 year olds
July 30-August 3, 8:30 am – 11:30 am
During this morning session campers spend the week learning all about what’s happening in the wild at Dahlem. Woodland, wetland and grassland habitat exploration to study frogs and toads, snakes, turtles, insects, birds, mammals and plants – we’ll explore it all! Campers will participate in daily hikes, predator-prey games, learn new skills, and most of all, create life-long memories.

Session 9 – Wetland Wonders

3 to 6 year olds
August 6-10, 8:30 am – 11:30 am
This morning session camp takes our young campers on an in-depth discovery tour of the wetland habitat; including ponds, streams and animals. We will study frogs and toads, turtles, insects, mammals, and birds in the wetland habitat. Must be 3 years by May 1, 2018, and have independent bathroom skills.
